Ren: Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask – Product Review

About two months ago I purchased the ‘REN Clean Skincare’ Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask and I have been using it once a week since then, usually on a Friday. I’m going to tell you why I bought it, what the packaging is like, how it smells, how it feels, and perhaps most important – what the results were.

As usual with REN, this mask doesn’t contain fragrances or dyes, pore-blocking petrochemicals, silicones, sulphates, parabens,

or animal ingredients. It’s one of the main reasons I chose REN. That, and because I used their products for a while when I was about 15 and they solved a skin problem so I have fond feelings towards them. They are also aiming to be zero waste within the next year so I really appreciate them as a brand.

This mask contains natural fruit acids from pineapple, papaya, and passion fruit (amongst a few others) which work to exfoliate your skin and leave it feeling soft and silky. Regular exfoliation helps smooth out skin and has anti-aging properties. The fruit acids also encourage your skin to look brighter and glowy. As this is an exfoliate you should stay away from scrubby exfoliates and other peels and use an SPF (which should be used all the time anyway!).

So first impressions, the bottle has a pump and gives you just the right amount of mask for your face. This bottle design also reduces wastage, so you know that when you get to the end of the product, there isn’t secretly a whole lot left in the bottle. Tops marks for the packaging.

As far as the texture goes, it is has a smooth gel-like and quite sticky. Its very satisfying to smoosh it all over your face. It smells fresh, juicy and citrussy.

To use, it also tingles quite a bit, and REN do tell you in the instructions to expect this (they do also say it is not for sensitive skin). I like to think that the tingle is just the mask ‘working’ and doing its thing. Its not an unpleasant feeling.

After leaving the mask on for 10 minutes, I remove it with warm water and a muslin cloth (which came with the mask). You know what? After using the first time, my skin felt smooth and soft. No effect on fine lines or wrinkles at this stage, I wasn‘t expecting reduced wrinkled after one use. My skin did look more radiant which I do expect from anything that makes your skin tingle. Two months later, after using once a week, my skin has been looking pretty good (clear and bright). I couldn’t say that it is down to this product alone, as I believe that it takes more than one mask a week to really improve your skin. But what I can say is that my skin looks brighter and feels softer after using this.

I’m going to go ahead and say that, despite the stickiness (maybe even partly because of the satisfying gooeyness), I am a fan of REN and this mask.

Until next time,
